New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) Following his recognition as the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year for 2024, India’s fast-bowling leader Jasprit Bumrah expressed that he feels immensely privileged to receive this accolade, describing it as a truly special moment.

Bumrah earned this honor after an exceptional 2024, in which he claimed 71 wickets across 13 matches in various conditions, boasting an impressive average of just 14.92. His performance included being named Player of the Series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series held in Australia.

At the age of 31, Bumrah becomes the first Indian player to achieve this prestigious title since Virat Kohli, who was awarded the trophy in 2018.

“Receiving the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award fills me with pride. Test cricket is a format I cherish, and to be acknowledged on such a platform is truly special. This award reflects not only my efforts but also the unwavering support from my teammates, coaches, and fans who inspire me daily. India also celebrated as vice-captain Smriti Mandhana won her first ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award since 2018, having scored 747 runs at an average of 57.46 in 2024, including four centuries—the most by any female player in a single calendar year.

“Winning the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year Award for 2024 is an incredible honor. Winning it for the first time in 2018 ignited my passion to excel for my country. Receiving this award again motivates me further to achieve greatness. It’s a source of immense pride to represent my country at the highest level, and I dedicate this award to my teammates, coaches, and family, who have been my unwavering support,” said Smriti.

Afghanistan’s seam-bowling all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai was named ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year, having scored 417 runs at an average of 52.12 while also taking 17 wickets at 20.47.

“I am deeply proud to be named the ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year after an incredible year. This honor is cherished both as an individual and as part of a talented Afghanistan team. I am grateful to my teammates, coaches, support staff, and fans for their unwavering support and prayers. Their encouragement has made this achievement possible,” he remarked.
