BWF World Tour Finals: Treesa and Gayatri Eliminated by Japanese Team

Hangzhou, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Indian women's doubles team comprising Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand was eliminated from the BWF World Tour Finals 2024 following a straight games defeat against the Japanese duo Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida in their Group A match on Friday.
The pair, who claimed a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, dashed the hopes of Treesa and Gayatri for advancing to the semifinals by winning the match with scores of 21-17 and 21-13 in just 49 minutes.
This match was crucial for the Indian duo, as they needed a win to keep their tournament hopes alive after their initial loss to the World No.1 and silver medallists from the Paris Olympics, Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China, with a scoreline of 20-22, 22-20, 21-14.
However, Treesa and Gayatri, the only Indian representatives at this season-ending event, managed to secure a victory against Malaysia's Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, winning 21-19 and 21-19 in their second Group A match on Thursday.
Finishing with just one point in three matches, the Indian pair concluded their campaign in third place in their group, while the Chinese and Japanese pairs took the top two spots, thus progressing to the semifinals.
