BWF World Tour Finals: Treesa and Gayatri Triumph Over Malaysian Opponents to Keep Semifinals Aspirations Alive

Hangzhou, Dec 12 (NationPress) The Indian women's doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand impressively defeated Malaysia's Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan with scores of 21-19, 21-19 in their second Group A match at the BWF World Tour Finals held here on Thursday.
This victory, achieved in just 46 minutes, keeps their hopes for a semifinal berth alive in this prestigious year-end tournament. Notably, Treesa and Gayatri are the sole representatives from India to qualify for the BWF World Tour Finals.
The Indian duo commenced the match with an aggressive approach, quickly establishing a 6-2 advantage in the first game. The Malaysian pair fought back, turning it into a tightly contested battle. Nevertheless, the Indian players kept their calm during crucial moments and secured the first game.
The second game mirrored the competitive nature of the first. After a balanced exchange in the initial five points, the Malaysians gained a slight edge. The contest remained fiercely competitive until the score reached 19-all, but Treesa and Gayatri once again demonstrated their composure, scoring two consecutive points to clinch the match and emerge victorious.
It is worth mentioning that the Indian pair faced a setback in their opening match on Wednesday, suffering a defeat against the World No.1 duo and Paris Olympics silver medallists Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning from China with a score of 20-22, 22-20, 21-14.
Currently, Treesa and Gayatri sit in second place within their group, trailing behind the Chinese pair. To secure their place in the semifinals, they must achieve a victory against the Japanese duo of Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida on Friday.
