Seville, April 14 (NationPress) Joaquin Caparros has officially returned as the new head coach of Sevilla FC after the dismissal of coach Xavier Pimienta on Sunday. The announcement was made on Monday, marking Caparros's fourth tenure at the club.
The agreement allows him to steer the team through the final phase of the season, which consists of seven remaining matches.
Caparros previously managed Sevilla FC from 2000 to 2005 and had two additional stints as interim coach during the concluding matches of the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.
“We need to approach it game by game. First up is Alavés, our immediate focus. We aim to foster a positive atmosphere in the stadium, encouraging support for the players. It’s crucial for everyone to contribute to engaging the fans,” Caparros stated.
“Now is the time to unite and prioritize the club crest. We represent the city's name globally, and we must strive to win and compete. We must come together as one unit, embodying Sevilla FC. We can discuss other matters later,” he added.
Currently, Sevilla sits in 13th place in the league standings, having suffered four consecutive defeats and a 4-1 elimination in the Round of 32 of the Copa del Rey against the second-tier side Almeria.
During Caparros's official introduction, Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco, president of Sevilla FC, shared, “In the past hours, Caparros's eagerness to return became evident. He accepted without hesitation. I appreciate his commitment; he possesses the necessary experience and qualities to meet our current needs. Joaquin has always given his all for Sevilla.”
“When we appointed Garcia Pimienta, we believed he was the right choice, and we extended his contract to convey confidence to the team. However, losing four consecutive matches is unacceptable. It would have been illogical to persist in that direction. The results dictated the necessity for change,” he concluded.
