Beijing, April 29 (NationPress) As the 100-day countdown to the Chengdu World Games begins this Tuesday, the organizing committee has revealed that the inaugural torch relay for the World Games will take place in southwest China's Sichuan Province on July 26.
The flame collection and launch ceremony will occur at the Sanxingdui Museum, after which the flame will be carried through three cities in Sichuan: Chengdu, Deyang, and Meishan, as reported by Xinhua.
"This will mark the first instance in the history of the World Games where we organize torch relay activities. A total of 120 torchbearers will travel a distance of 11 kilometers," said Wang Fengchao, vice president of the Chengdu World Games organizing committee and mayor of Chengdu.
Wang elaborated, "The selection process for torchbearers will take place from March to June, featuring athletes, coaches, community members, international friends, and grassroots workers like couriers, ride-hailing drivers, and sanitation workers."
During this historic event, 120 notable torchbearers will be chosen based on their contributions to sports, aiming to spread the spirit of the World Games into various communities, promoting unity and inspiring sporting aspirations worldwide.
The torch, named 'Zhumeng' (Dream Chaser) for the upcoming 2025 Chengdu World Games, is the first-ever torch specifically designed for this event and was unveiled on February 27.
