Kolkata, May 27 (NationPress) Despite facing challenges with three losses, Lallianzuala Chhangte emphasized the significant learning experience that the AFC Asian Cup 2024 provided for him and the entire team. The Blue Tigers are committed to utilizing these lessons as they strive for qualification for the 2027 edition.
"We faced some of the strongest teams in Asia such as Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria. Although the last Asian Cup wasn't our finest hour, I gained invaluable insights into making crucial decisions at pivotal moments. As a team, I believe that this setback has been instrumental in shaping our character, ultimately making us better players and individuals," Chhangte shared with the-aiff.com.
"We are now eagerly looking ahead to our next challenge. Our primary objective is to qualify for the Asian Cup once more."
The Indian team will face Hong Kong in the final round of the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers on June 10 in Kowloon City. Prior to that, the Blue Tigers are set to play a friendly match against Thailand on June 4 in Pathum Thani.
"The atmosphere within the camp is incredibly positive right now. Everyone is dedicated, driven, and prepared to give their utmost every day, particularly after the setback against Bangladesh. There's a collective desire to turn things around. The entire staff, including physios, doctors, and masseurs, have been exceptional, motivating us in every possible way. The camp is vibrant, fostering healthy competition, which is fantastic," Chhangte remarked.
With 42 caps to his name, the 27-year-old Chhangte is one of the most seasoned players in the Indian squad. Among those currently training in Kolkata, only Sunil Chhetri and Sandesh Jhingan made their international debuts before the Mizo winger. He first represented India at just 18 during the 2015 SAFF Championship in Thiruvananthapuram, where he netted an impressive brace against Nepal in his second appearance.
"Playing for the national team is the highest honor for a footballer. Wearing the shirt and having the privilege to represent my country compels me to give my all. That’s my commitment every time I join the camp. It's a remarkable feeling, and I cherish it deeply. I aim to make each day count and give my best for my nation," concluded Chhangte.
