Approximately 1,200 athletes aged between 14 and 18 years from 74 nations and territories within the Commonwealth will gather in Malta for this prestigious event.
The Games will include eight sports: swimming and para swimming, athletics and para athletics, netball, sailing, squash, triathlon, water polo, and weightlifting. Competitions will be held across seven venues on the islands of Malta and Gozo.
Venues include the Cottonera Indoor Pool, Tal-Qroqq National Pool, Marsa Athletics Stadium, Marsa Sports Centre, Mellieha Bay, Gozo Indoor Sports Pavilion, and Marsalforn Bay.
Commonwealth Sport Chief Executive Katie Sadleir expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Malta 2027 aims to create an exhilarating and competitive atmosphere, highlighting Maltese sporting prowess. Malta 2027 will notably feature the largest para sport program in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games, expanding upon the inclusion of para athletics in the last edition held in Trinidad and Tobago in 2023.
This upcoming event will also introduce sailing and water polo as new additions to the youth sports lineup.
Initiated in 2000 in Edinburgh, the Commonwealth Youth Games were created to offer a global platform for young athletes and serve as a stepping stone towards elite senior competitions.
Since its launch, the event has welcomed over 6,000 athletes, with the latest edition in Trinidad and Tobago being the most expansive thus far.
