Chennai, March 23 (NationPress) The left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad delivered an impressive performance with figures of 4-18, while left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed added 3-29 to help Chennai Super Kings restrict Mumbai Indians to 155/9 in their 20 overs during the second match of Sunday’s double-header in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Making his debut for CSK, Noor confounded the MI batsmen with his skill, achieving the best bowling figures by a spinner from his team against the five-time champions. Khaleel was particularly effective in the power-play, putting MI on the defensive.

Despite efforts from Tilak Varma (31) and Suryakumar Yadav (29) to rebuild, MI struggled with shot selection, as CSK’s spin attack curtailed the run-scoring in the middle overs. A late cameo of 28 not out off 15 balls from Deepak Chahar helped them surpass the 150 mark.

Choosing to bowl first, CSK got off to a fantastic start, largely due to Khaleel’s brilliance during the power-play. With an inswinging delivery, he had Rohit Sharma caught at mid-wicket for a four-ball duck. Ryan Rickelton managed three boundaries but was dismissed by Khaleel for 13.

In his first over as a CSK bowler in nearly a decade, Ravichandran Ashwin struck by having Will Jacks caught at mid-off for 11 after he miscalculated a lofted attempt off a carrom ball. Meanwhile, Suryakumar initiated MI’s counter-attack with several boundaries off Ashwin and Nathan Ellis, including a six off Khaleel.

Varma attempted to unsettle Ashwin immediately by scoring back-to-back boundaries, including a six off Ravindra Jadeja. Ashwin nearly had Suryakumar caught off his own bowling but eventually dismissed him when he attempted to take on Noor, only to be stumped by MS Dhoni for 29.

Noor struck again in the 13th over when IPL debutant Robin Minz attempted to break free but was caught at long-off. He soon followed up by trapping Tilak lbw with a googly for 31 and then clean bowled Naman Dhir for 17.

After Ellis dismissed Mitchell Santner lbw, Chahar sealed MI’s innings by hitting Khaleel for a four and a six. Khaleel ended his spell by having Trent Boult caught in the deep, while Chahar hoisted Ellis for six, allowing MI to finish above the 150 mark.

Brief Scores:
