Chennai, April 26 (NationPress) Following their near-elimination due to a five-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni acknowledged that the Chennai Super Kings have faced numerous challenges this season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, with the most significant being their persistently low scoring.
After being asked to bat first, aside from the promising Ayush Mhatre, mid-season recruit Dewald Brevis, and a late surge by Deepak Hooda, the CSK batsmen faltered once more, managing to post only 154 runs. Even though they briefly regained momentum in the latter half, that total was insufficient as they faced their fourth consecutive home defeat.
“In a tournament like this, if you have one or two areas that need improvement, it's manageable. But when most of your players are underperforming, it becomes quite challenging. You may need to make several adjustments, but if multiple players are excelling, you can afford to give them a few more matches. However, if four players are not performing simultaneously, changes are necessary because we aren't scoring enough runs, which is crucial given how the game has evolved. I'm not suggesting it has to be 180-200 every time, but it's important to evaluate conditions and score accordingly,” said MS Dhoni in the post-match remarks.
Currently, Chennai sits at the bottom of the IPL 2025 standings with only two victories from nine matches. Despite being in a similar predicament before the match, SRH secured their first-ever win at Chepauk, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, an all-rounder, who shared an unbeaten 49-run partnership with Kamindu Mendis to clinch the win, drew motivation from Royal Challengers Bengaluru's performance last season. He believes his team can replicate that feat by winning seven consecutive matches to qualify for the playoffs.
“Similar to the first innings, Noor bowled impressively, and Khaleel also performed well at the end. I'm grateful we emerged victorious. It's crucial for us; it's a do-or-die situation. Last year, RCB faced a similar situation and won seven matches in a row. Why can't we achieve the same this year? We just need to give our all, and then we will see,” Reddy stated.
