Chennai, April 5 (NationPress) Delhi Capitals continued their impressive streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with a victory by 25 runs against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. This win marks DC's ascent to the top of the table, achieving a win in Chepauk for the first time since 2010.

DC’s success was largely attributed to KL Rahul, who scored a brilliant 77 runs as the opener, stepping up after Faf du Plessis was sidelined due to injury, leading them to a total of 183/6. In response, CSK struggled during their batting power-play as DC executed their strategy effectively.

With the pitch not favoring high scores, CSK could only manage 158/5, with Vijay Shankar contributing a solid 69 not out from 54 deliveries. For DC, Vipraj Nigam claimed 2 wickets for 27 runs, while the rest of the bowlers, except for Mohit Sharma and Axar Patel, each took one wicket.

The defense of 183 started well for DC, as Rachin Ravindra attempted to flick Mukesh Kumar but was caught in the follow-through for just three runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad fell prey to Mitchell Starc’s short ball strategy, departing for five runs after a misjudged shot. Nigam soon struck again, taking Devon Conway out with a leading edge caught at cover, concluding the power-play at 46/3.

As the pitch slowed, DC effectively contained Shankar and Shivam Dube. Their strategy to restrict runs proved successful as Dube was caught out for 18 runs, followed by Kuldeep Yadav trapping Ravindra Jadeja lbw for just two runs.

Although Shankar survived a few close calls and broke CSK’s boundary drought by hitting some fours, his efforts, along with MS Dhoni’s late surge of 30 not out from 26 balls, couldn’t avert a second consecutive home defeat for CSK in IPL 2025.
