New Delhi, April 22 (NationPress) The CEO of Chennai Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan, has recognized the profound disappointment and frustration felt by the franchise's dedicated supporters following a series of subpar performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Nonetheless, the senior executive remains positive about the team’s capacity to recover, drawing comparisons to CSK’s remarkable resurgence in 2010 when they overcame a mid-season slump to claim their first IPL title.

Currently, CSK finds itself at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, having suffered defeat in six of their initial eight matches. Their most recent loss was a nine-wicket rout against the Mumbai Indians, severely jeopardizing their playoff aspirations.

After scoring 176 runs in the first innings, CSK’s bowling attack failed to deliver, as Rohit Sharma (76 not out) and Suryakumar Yadav (68 not out) guided Mumbai to the target in just 15.4 overs, exacerbating CSK’s already poor net run rate.

In addressing the current predicament, Viswanathan remarked at an event in Chennai, “It’s understandable that you all feel disappointed with CSK's performance this year. Such ups and downs happen. We are aware that we are not playing well at the moment. However, we expect to perform better in the upcoming matches.”

Reinforcing his faith in the squad’s abilities, the CSK CEO stated, “We possess talent like Shivam Dube, who has been performing admirably over the years. With someone like Thala leading, it’s just a matter of time before we regain form.”

Viswanathan also recalled the events of IPL 2010, a season where CSK managed only two victories in their first seven games, yet rallied to win the championship.

“We certainly remember 2010. We lost five consecutive matches and went on to win the trophy. That was the year we first claimed the title. I am confident that the boys are dedicated. The team is committed. I believe we will deliver improved performances in the forthcoming matches,” he added.

Despite the optimism, CSK’s current form presents a bleak outlook. They have struggled with both batting and bowling coherence. Injuries to pivotal players — particularly captain Ruturaj Gaikwad — have further disrupted their balance, necessitating M.S. Dhoni’s return to leadership. While Dhoni and Shivam Dube have exhibited moments of brilliance, the rest of the lineup has not consistently performed.

The bowling unit has been equally inconsistent, and the team management has faced challenges in finding a dependable combination even after eight matches. Changes in the batting order have not produced the desired outcomes either.

CSK’s next test will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25 at their home venue in Chennai.
