IPL 2025: Hussey Remains Hopeful for CSK Playoff Aspirations
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, April 12 (NationPress) The batting coach of Chennai Super Kings, Mike Hussey, remains optimistic about a turnaround for the five-time champions in the IPL 2025 season, despite a streak of five consecutive losses. CSK is experiencing its most challenging IPL campaign, marking the first time in tournament history that they have suffered five defeats in a row. The latest setback, an eight-wicket loss to the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, was their third consecutive defeat at Chepauk this season, another first.
“We are certainly not waving the white flag just yet. You only need to get into that fourth place. In a lengthy tournament like the IPL, momentum is crucial,” Hussey stated during the post-match media briefing.
“Currently, we don't have momentum on our side at all. Our performance has not been consistently good. We recognize that and admit it. However, that does not mean things cannot change quickly. That's what we are still clinging to and working hard for. If we can shift the momentum, build confidence, and secure a few wins, the confidence will grow, and you never know what can happen,” he added.
Chennai Super Kings has a storied history as one of the most successful teams in the IPL. Yet, their fortunes dipped last season. Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK was in the playoff race but narrowly missed out after losing their last group stage match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Hussey stressed the importance of self-belief and unity within the team to turn the season around. Currently, CSK occupies the 9th position on the points table, just ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“We might find a way to secure one of those last playoff spots. There’s a long journey ahead, and we definitely need to improve. But we still have faith that we can accomplish that,” Hussey remarked.
“This is a time for us to stay united, work diligently, and focus on the essential aspects of our game.
“There’s been much discussion about our playing style, but we don’t want to change the way our players naturally play. They’ve reached the IPL by excelling in their style, and I’m not one to push them to play differently,” the former Australian cricketer concluded.
CSK's next match is against Lucknow Super Giants in an away game on Monday.
