Sydney, Nov 8 (NationPress) Australia’s captain Pat Cummins has been delivering full-speed bowling at NSW nets as he gears up for the second Ashes Test. His training intensity has ramped up as he aims for peak fitness ahead of the Gabba Test, which is scheduled to commence on December 4.
Previously, Cummins was sidelined from the eagerly awaited Ashes opener in Perth, starting on November 21. Nonetheless, the fast-bowling sensation is now targeting participation in the day-night Test at the Gabba.
During a productive practice session at the SCG, Cummins showcased his skills as NSW prepares to compete against Victoria in the Sheffield Shield starting Monday. The 32-year-old bowled with impressive velocity during net sessions, indicating positive signs, as reported by Cricket Australia.
The Australian squad will head into the first Test featuring Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland, all of whom are set to play in the Shield matches before heading to Perth.
This week, Cummins acknowledged that maintaining an unchanged lineup from the second Test through the series finale was improbable, as he is on the mend from back stress. However, his potential inclusion in the series is likely to raise alarm bells for England, who believe they have an advantage over Scott Boland after his lackluster performances in two Tests during the 2023 Ashes.
“I’m bowling at around 115 to 120 (km/h). I’ll push myself a bit more later in the week. Each session builds on the last, so it’ll become gradually more intense, and once I arrive in Perth, I should be close to a full run-up and ready for some overs,” Cummins shared.
“I feel great, and all indications are looking positive so far. I’ve dealt with this injury before, albeit a while ago, so I know what to expect. After any break from bowling, you may feel some discomfort, but I recognize that it’s part of the process.”
“I feel fantastic and have a solid plan in place, so I’m optimistic about participating significantly this summer,” the pacer informed Channel 7 earlier this week.
