New Delhi, July 3 (NationPress) The inaugural Khelo India Water Sports Festival is set to take place at the picturesque Dal Lake in Srinagar from August 21-23. This was confirmed by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, during a press conference on Thursday.

This event is part of the expanding Khelo India schedule, following the successful launch of the first Khelo India Beach Games held in Diu last May. The water sports festival will showcase five disciplines: kayaking and canoeing, rowing, water skiing, shikara racing, and dragon boat racing.

Dr. Mandaviya stated, “The Khelo India Water Sports Festival exemplifies the government’s dedication to fostering diverse sports and enhancing opportunities for athletes to shine at the national stage. Just like the inaugural Khelo India Beach Games, we aim to make Khelo India more inclusive and accessible across the nation.”

This open-age competition is anticipated to attract more than 400 athletes from 36 states and Union Territories, with athlete nominations being managed by the National Sports Federation based on their national championships or other recognized events, as determined by the Games Technical Conduct Committee.

“India holds a commendable position in water sports within Asia. The festival at Dal Lake will unveil promising talents and prepare them for global competitions. Our water sports facilities boast cutting-edge infrastructure and skilled coaches. We encourage new athletes to pursue excellence in water sports,” added Mandaviya.

This upcoming festival will mark the fifth Khelo India event in 2025, following the Khelo India Winter Games in Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir, the Para Games in Delhi, the Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar and Delhi, and most recently, the Beach Games in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
