Rio de Janeiro, July 9 (NationPress) - The son of Brazil's head coach Carlo Ancelotti, Davide Ancelotti, has officially taken the helm as the manager of Botafogo, as announced by the Brazilian Serie A club. The 35-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him with the club until December 2026.
In the club's statement, it was noted, "The appointment of Davide Ancelotti marks a pivotal move in enhancing our sports initiative, centered around innovation, ambition, and international recognition."
Joining Davide will be two assistants: Luis Tevenet from Spain and Andrew Mangan from Britain. Furthermore, Luca Guerra, an Italian physical trainer, will also be part of the coaching staff.
This marks Ancelotti's debut as a head coach, having previously served as an assistant alongside his father at Napoli, Everton, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and the current role with the Brazil national team, which he is expected to continue.
Botafogo, who clinched last year’s Brazilian Serie A and Copa Libertadores titles, recently dismissed former manager Renato Paiva after their exit from the FIFA Club World Cup.
Currently positioned eighth in Brazil's 20-team top division, Botafogo is set to face Ecuador's LDU Quito in the Copa Libertadores round of 16 come August.
After their 1-0 extra-time defeat to Brazilian rivals Palmeiras in the Club World Cup, the decision to let Paiva go was made. Botafogo previously captured attention in the Club World Cup by defeating UEFA Champions LeagueParis St Germain 1-0 in the group stage, following a win over Seattle Sounders, eventually advancing as Group B runners-up despite a loss to Atletico Madrid.
Paiva led Botafogo to 12 victories, three draws, and eight losses in all competitions since taking over from compatriot Artur Jorge in February.
