Delhi Capitals' Coach Badani Optimistic Ahead of IPL 2026 Match Against RCB
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 17 (NationPress) The head coach of Delhi Capitals, Hemang Badani, has downplayed worries regarding the team's batting performance as they prepare for their IPL 2026 match against the reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He emphasized that the squad has achieved respectable scores and only requires one player to deliver at a crucial moment.
DC aims to end their two-match losing streak during the game at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium this Saturday. "I would kindly disagree. We have managed scores of 190 and 200. We lost one match by just 1 run, which was very close. In our last match, we scored around 180-190. It boils down to one of our batters performing well at the right time. I believe we will be fine," Badani stated in the pre-match briefing.
Regarding their preparations, especially after a lengthy break, Badani mentioned, "Our responsibility is to prepare adequately. When it comes to RCB, their batting and bowling are both quite strong. However, our main focus is on how we get ready for tomorrow."
He recognized the discourse surrounding momentum but highlighted that DC has concentrated on addressing specific concerns. "From my perspective, the topic of momentum is frequently discussed in tournaments like this. Many coaches and even broadcasters talk about it, but I think it’s about identifying the areas that need improvement for a particular team. We believe we have identified and worked on those issues. You will find out the results tomorrow or the day after. I cannot elaborate further on that. The key is to manage those concerns, and we have made efforts to tackle them," he added.
Badani also commended fast-bowling all-rounder Auqib Nabi's composure and reliability after his IPL debut against CSK. "If I may mention more than one reason, there are two factors that make him a valuable asset. First is his temperament.
"He has remained consistent regardless of the circumstances, whether good or bad—he has maintained his composure. We've observed that cricketers often react differently during their ups and downs, but he has stayed the same throughout the season.
"Secondly, he has been steady in his line and length. He possesses the skills necessary to perform at a higher level. Everyone experiences nerves during their first game, and I noticed he had similar nerves. However, I believe he will prove to be an asset for us," Badani elaborated.
On Sameer Rizvi's position in the batting lineup, Badani stated that the young player has made considerable strides since the last season. "Previously, we had a different structure. Ashutosh (Sharma) would bat at No. 7 or 8, and Sameer would occasionally come in at the top. Last year’s structure meant Sameer would only play if a top-order wicket fell.
"If that didn’t occur, Sameer would be sidelined, and we would rely on Ashutosh. This year, we have conducted three to four training camps prior to the season. We began working with Sameer last November. Thankfully, he was able to join us for those camps.
"We have seen substantial development in him. He has progressed significantly compared to last year, which is why he is not only an impact player but also a more permanent fixture in our lineup," he concluded.
