Why is DC coach Jonathan Batty Disappointed After Another WPL Final Loss?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Vadodara, Feb 6 (NationPress) The head coach of Delhi Capitals, Jonathan Batty, expressed his disappointment following the team’s fourth consecutive loss in the finals as Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered an impressive performance to chase down 204 runs and secure their second title in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 showdown at BCA Stadium (Kotambi).
Batty acknowledged that the batters executed their roles effectively, continuing the momentum from the eliminator to set a record for the highest first-innings score in Vadodara, yet it was disheartening to see the team end up on the losing side yet again.
"It’s incredibly tough to accept. After a strong performance in the Eliminator earlier this week and entering this game with confidence, we posted a commendable score. I was proud of our batting effort. Twenty overs in, you feel like, 'This is a solid score; if we bowl well, we have a great chance.' It's truly disappointing to find ourselves on the wrong end once more. But full credit to RCB; their two batters, Georgia Voll and Smriti, played exceptionally well," Batty stated during the post-match press conference.
Despite the loss, Batty commended the team for their resilience, managing to bring the match to the final over where RCB needed ten runs to clinch victory.
"I’m really proud of our team’s effort to stay competitive, particularly when it seemed we were losing our grip for a while, and to push to the last over, ultimately losing with just two balls remaining. We demonstrated tremendous fight and heart. However, the game reflected our season, where we performed well in certain aspects while faltering in others at critical moments," he added.
The head coach also praised Jemimah Rodrigues for her leadership throughout the tournament, marking a significant impact in her debut as captain. "I’m immensely proud of Jemi. After losing a few initial matches in the tournament, she faced considerable pressure. She brought energy and experience to the team, contributing significantly with runs as well. Her captaincy decisions were outstanding throughout the tournament," Batty remarked.
"Her leadership grew stronger as the tournament progressed. I’m proud of her dedication this season and eager to see how she advances in the coming years," Batty concluded.
