Vadodara, Feb 19 (NationPress) Captain Meg Lanning showcased her brilliance with a splendid 69 runs, while Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp contributed vital unbeaten scores of 41 and 29 respectively, leading Delhi Capitals to a seven-wicket victory over UP Warriorz in the sixth match of WPL 2025 at the Kotambi Stadium on Wednesday.
Following a blazing fifty from Kiran Navgire off just 24 balls, along with Shweta Sehrawat’s 37 off 33 balls and Chinelle Henry’s rapid 33 off 15 balls, UP Warriorz set a target of 166/7. Meg laid the groundwork for DC’s chase with her impressive 69 from 49 balls, featuring 12 boundaries.
Annabel and Marizanne played crucial roles in maintaining the momentum, ensuring DC completed the chase with one ball remaining, concluding the WPL 2025 Vadodara leg on a high note. Their performance was aided by some lackluster fielding from UPW, propelling DC to the second position in the points table.
Shafali Verma kicked off the chase with a flurry, launching Kranti Goud for both a four and a six in the opening over. From the other end, Meg struck two fours off Sophie Ecclestone, and both she and Shafali continued to score freely against Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
Meg increased the scoring rate by flicking Chinelle Henry for two effortless fours and sliced another four against Kranti, concluding the power-play at a commanding 59/0.
However, shortly after, Shafali fell for 26 off 16 balls after miscuing a slog against Deepti, and UPW struck again when Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed for a duck.
Despite the setbacks, Meg continued to impress, reaching her fifty with a powerful shot through point. Yet, in an attempt to flick Grace Harris, Meg was bowled out. With 32 runs needed from 18 balls, the match remained open to interpretation.
Nevertheless, seasoned player Marizanne kept her cool, striking two consecutive boundaries off Sophie in the 18th over. A dropped catch off Marizanne by substitute Alana King in the 19th over set the stage for a tense finish, requiring 11 runs in the last over. Annabel struck consecutive fours off Tahlia McGrath, and despite a mishap in a run-out attempt by UPW, DC crossed the finish line, capitalizing on the opponent’s fielding errors.
