Mumbai, March 15 (NationPress) The Delhi Capitals once again fell short in the finals of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025, as the Mumbai Indians held their composure to win by eight runs, securing their second title in front of 14,700 enthusiastic fans at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday.

The victory for MI was orchestrated by their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who showcased her batting prowess by scoring 66 runs, leading the team to a total of 149/7. In their effort to defend a target of 150, Nat Sciver-Brunt excelled with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs, including the crucial dismissal of Marizanne Kapp. Amelia Kerr also contributed with 2 wickets for 25 runs, helping MI restrict DC to 141/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

For DC, apart from Marizanne's 40 runs, Jemimah Rodrigues scored 30, and Niki Prasad remained not out at 25. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled under pressure and couldn’t cope with MI’s bowling attack, ultimately leading to another disappointing finish in the finals.

In their chase of 150 runs, DC lost their opening batsmen, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, within the first three overs. Meg was bowled out by a brilliant off-cutter from Nat for 13 runs, while Shafali was dismissed lbw for four runs, marking a rare instance of both openers scoring less than 15 runs in the same WPL innings.

Jess Jonassen provided some much-needed boundaries, but after the power-play, DC continued to falter. Jess was caught after miscuing a slog off a googly from Amelia, while Jemimah fought hard, hitting three boundaries before also falling to Amelia’s bowling.

Marizanne hit a couple of boundaries and was involved in a mix-up leading to Sarah Bryce's run-out. With 52 runs required off the last five overs, Marizanne lofted Saika for a four and benefited from a catch going over the boundary for a six. However, her hope ended when she was dismissed by Nat, who also bowled out Shikha Pandey on the next ball.

Despite Niki remaining unbeaten, DC's quest for victory ended in heartbreak, as MI demonstrated their renowned big-game mentality and celebrated a championship win at their home ground once again.
