How Will Delhi's Sujeet Tackle Tumur Ochir in the Final?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Noida, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Delhi Dangal Warriors have clinched their place in the final of the Pro Wrestling League 2026 after a nail-biting victory over Maharashtra Kesari in semi-final 2 held at the Noida Indoor Stadium. Delhi's Sujeet expressed his eagerness for the upcoming match against the Haryana Thunders' Mongolian wrestler, Tumur Ochir, noting that their individual encounters are tied at 1-1.
The match was characterized by intense back-and-forth action, but Delhi held their nerve to secure a 5–4 victory, setting the stage for a highly anticipated championship clash against the Haryana Thunders. Shubham Kaushik was honored with the Player of the Match title for his impressive comeback in the 57kg men’s category, while Manisha Bhanvala received the Fighter of the Match accolade for her commanding display that highlighted Maharashtra’s efforts in the same weight class.
Reflecting on the semi-final, Sujeet detailed the team's approach, particularly after losing momentum despite a strong beginning.
“Our strategy was to deploy our top wrestlers first, but the toss didn’t go our way. This caused a bit of unease since our strongest competitors were reserved for later bouts. However, we remained confident about our ability to make a comeback,” Sujeet shared with IANS.
He also addressed the team's unexpected injury challenges during the match, stating, “Initially, we discussed the severity of the injury. If it wasn’t serious, we decided to keep the player in. However, if it was severe, we would opt for a replacement and come up with a better strategy for the final.”
Looking forward to the final, Sujeet confirmed that he will be facing Tumur Ochir Tulga from Mongolia, with whom he shares a competitive rivalry.
“Tumur Ochir Tulga is my opponent from Mongolia. He is an excellent wrestler with numerous international medals. I previously lost to him in the final of a World Qualifier match, 2–1. However, in our recent league encounter, I managed to defeat him 2–1, making the score even. Now, I aim to perform even better in the final,” Sujeet stated.
When asked about his strategy to tip the head-to-head record in his favor, Sujeet kept his response straightforward: “My plan is to give my best. The rest is in God’s hands.”
