New York, Sep 6 (NationPress) Novak Djokovic has expressed his desire to participate in a complete Grand Slam season next year, following his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the 2025 US Open.
In a thrilling showdown, the 22-year-old Spaniard triumphed over the 38-year-old Serbian with scores of 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2, marking Alcaraz's progression to his seventh major final and second in New York.
"I still want to play Grand Slams and a full Grand Slam season next year," Djokovic stated. "We'll see if that materializes. But Slams are Slams - they stand apart from any other tournament. They are the cornerstones of our sport, the most significant events we have," he added.
The match, held on Arthur Ashe Stadium and spanning two hours and 25 minutes, saw Alcaraz avenge his previous defeats to Djokovic at the 2023 Australian Open and the 2024 Paris Olympics. This victory keeps him on track for his sixth Grand Slam title and a potential return to the top of the PIF ATP Rankings, according to ATP.
“I’m pleased with my tennis performance, but it’s the physical aspect that concerns me. As I mentioned post-quarter-finals in the press conference, I’ll strive to keep my body fit to maintain that level and rhythm for as long as necessary,” Djokovic remarked, noting he has a 5-4 record against Alcaraz in their ATP Head2Head series. “However, it wasn’t sufficient. Unfortunately, at this stage of my career, that’s beyond my control.”
With 100 tour-level titles under his belt, Djokovic admitted frustration when he can’t maintain his physical form but acknowledged that this is a reality he must accept at his age.
“Time and age contribute to this,” Djokovic noted. “I still relish the competitive spirit. Today, I received incredible support from the crowd. I’m very grateful for that. I truly enjoyed myself. Yes, that’s one of the primary reasons I continue – the love I’ve received globally has been remarkable over the past few years,” Djokovic concluded.
