Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) Reports indicate that former Indian cricket stars Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin are joining forces as investors to acquire a franchise in the European T20 Premier League.
This past January, the ETPL unveiled Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and Belfast as the inaugural franchise cities set to participate in the league, which is slated to kick off at the end of August this year.
According to a report by BCC, Dravid and Ashwin are part of an Indian investment group that has reached an agreement to purchase the Glasgow-based franchise in the six-team tournament taking place this summer.
Furthermore, the ETPL is preparing to transfer ownership of the second Dutch franchise, located in Rotterdam, to a consortium of South African investors led by former Proteas players Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen, and Jonty Rhodes.
The Amsterdam franchise will be under the ownership of a team spearheaded by Australian cricket legend Steve Waugh, alongside five-time World Player of the Year and Olympic gold medallist Jamie Dwyer, and former CEO of the Centre for Australia-India Relations, Tim Thomas.
Ownership of the Edinburgh franchise will be shared by former New Zealand internationals Nathan McCullum and Kyle Mills, who is a former fast bowler and past ICC No.1 ODI bowler. Meanwhile, the franchise in Belfast will be owned by Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Rohan Lund, a former Group CEO of NRMA.
Additionally, the report states that the only ETPL city franchise that has yet to be sold is the one based in Dublin, which has attracted interest from owners of at least two teams in The Hundred.
The ETPL is being organized in partnership with the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands.
Notably, Bollywood actor and film producer Abhishek Bachchan is also a part-owner of the league in collaboration with Rules Sport Tech, a private Indian enterprise.
