Melbourne, July 29 (NationPress) Cricket Australia has officially announced that the Prime Minister’s XI will face off against an England Men’s XI in a two-day, day-night match at Manuka Oval on November 29 and 30.
The two-day pink-ball match in Canberra is set to kick off just four days after the opening Test in Perth and will conclude three days prior to the day-night Test in Brisbane, which has replaced the traditional pink-ball venue of the Adelaide Oval this season.
This year marks the eleventh meeting between England and the Prime Minister’s XI, and it will be the first time this match is played using the pink Kookaburra ball.
Anthony Albanese, the Prime Minister of Australia, expressed his excitement, stating, “This year, we welcome an England XI to Manuka Oval for what promises to be a thrilling contest ahead of one of cricket's greatest rivalries.”
He added, “An Ashes series is something every cricket fan eagerly anticipates. Like many Australians, I fondly remember the brilliance of players such as Ian Botham, David Gower, and Graham Gooch.
“I look forward to collaborating with the selectors to finalize a PM’s XI that features the top talent from across Australia to compete against the formidable English team.”
England’s five-match Ashes Test series will commence in Perth on November 21.
In the meantime, the England Lions will kick off their tour in Perth in November, including matches against both England and a Cricket Australia XI. Their tour will wrap up with a match against Australia A in Brisbane at the start of December.
England is yet to reclaim the Ashes since their victory in 2015, when they won 3-2 on home soil. The last series between these historic cricket rivals ended in a 2-2 draw.
