New Zealand have named a 16-member squad for their five-match ODI series against the West Indies, with Northern Districts fast bowler Matthew Fisher receiving his first-ever ODI call-up and Jacob Duffy returning to international cricket. The series runs from 11 July to 21 July 2026, spanning Guyana and Barbados, and marks New Zealand's first ODI assignment in the Caribbean since their series triumph there in 2022.

Fisher's Maiden Call-Up

Matthew Fisher, 26, is the headline selection in the squad announcement. The right-arm seamer has been a consistent performer in domestic one-day cricket, claiming 43 wickets in 25 List A matches at an average of 26. Fisher has already featured in a Test against Zimbabwe in August 2025 and a T20I against Bangladesh in April 2026, but the Caribbean tour will be his first exposure to the 50-over format at international level.

Head coach Rob Walter highlighted Fisher's development as the key reason for his inclusion. 'It's a nice opportunity to introduce Matt to the ODI group for the first time. He bowls with good pace and has been working hard on his variations to ensure he can bowl at different stages of the innings,' Walter said.

Duffy Back After Family Leave

Jacob Duffy, the reigning Sir Richard Hadlee Medal winner, returns to the national setup after missing the recent Test series in England following the birth of his first child. He last represented New Zealand during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final in March 2026. Walter expressed confidence in Duffy's impact: 'Jacob has been a stand-out for us in all formats for the past couple of years. His skills and experience will be a great addition to our squad and I know he's looking forward to representing New Zealand again.'

Squad Composition and Leadership

Mitchell Santner continues as captain in white-ball cricket, with Tom Latham serving as wicketkeeper. The pace attack is bolstered by Kristian Clarke, Ben Sears, and Nathan Smith, while spin options include Michael Bracewell, Jayden Lennox, and Dean Foxcroft. Lennox retains his place after impressing on debut against India earlier in 2026 and is set for his third overseas white-ball tour. Bracewell and Mark Chapman together bring nearly 250 international appearances to the group.

Key Absentees

Several first-choice players are unavailable. Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, and Will O'Rourke have been rested after a demanding first half of the 2026 season, while Blair Tickner will undergo scheduled ankle surgery. Devon Conway has been granted paternity leave following the birth of his second child during the England Test series. Rachin Ravindra will miss the tour under a pre-agreed arrangement with New Zealand Cricket to participate in Major League Cricket.

Series Schedule

The opening three ODIs are scheduled in Guyana on 11, 13 and 16 July, before the series concludes in Bridgetown, Barbados on 19 and 21 July. New Zealand's last ODI tour of the Caribbean, in 2022, ended in a historic series win — a benchmark the Santner-led side will be looking to match.
