Barcelona, April 11 (NationPress) Hansi Flick, the head coach of the Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona, is cherishing his time in Catalonia and has expressed how much he enjoys his role at the club. However, he also emphasized that he is not the kind of coach who commits to long-term contracts.
The German coach was brought on board just before the 2024-25 season, signing a two-year agreement that will conclude in June 2026, following a tumultuous end to the previous relationship with Xavi. Prior to his stint at Barcelona, Flick gained prominence during his time at FC Bayern Munich, where he led the team to a remarkable sextuple in 2020, including a memorable 8-2 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
"I find the people in Barcelona delightful, and my wife and I are very happy here. It’s a new adventure, which gives me a lot of enthusiasm. I am still full of energy and constantly think about how we can improve because I believe we have the potential to enhance our performance.
"I’m not a coach who seeks to extend my contract for three more years just to feel secure about my future. What I truly appreciate is working for this club, which I consider the best in the world. I value my position here, and I fully understand that the circumstances are challenging, but we all play our part.
"Having been here for just a year, if we continue to feel satisfied, we might go on for another year. I can’t predict what lies ahead, but everything here is extraordinary. We still have work to complete. My goal is to finish my job here on a high note because I genuinely love living in this city and working for this club," Flick shared during a press conference.
After finishing in second place in the 2023-24 La Liga season, suffering an exit against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal, and facing a staggering 1-4 defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the UCL quarterfinals, Flick has significantly transformed the Catalan squad. They now boast one of the most threatening attacking lineups in Europe, showcased by their 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of this season's Champions League quarterfinals.
Barcelona is currently in the hunt for a treble, with all three trophies still within their grasp. They are at the top of the La Liga table and are set to compete against Real Madrid in the final of the Copa del Rey later this month.
Flick also confirmed that his team will be implementing some changes to ensure fresh legs for the upcoming second leg against the German team next week.
"As a coach, I’m not making any confirmations. We need to keep in mind the necessity of making adjustments and ensuring we have fresh legs. It’s crucial to rest some players. We are considering this, and it’s how we manage these situations. Our physical condition is excellent," he added.
