Football: Cruzeiro Signs Former Everton Winger Bolasie; America Targets Defender Marcelo

Rio de Janeiro, Dec 28 (NationPress) Teams across the Americas are making significant waves in the transfer market as Brazilian club Cruzeiro has officially signed former Everton winger Yannick Bolasie. Simultaneously, the prominent Mexican club America is actively seeking to secure the services of former Real Madrid defender Marcelo.
Cruzeiro announced on Friday that they have completed the acquisition of Bolasie on a free transfer. This move comes after the 35-year-old ended his contract with Criciuma, a team that has recently faced relegation to Brazil's second tier. He will remain with Cruzeiro until December 2025, as indicated in a brief announcement shared by the Belo Horizonte-based club on social media. Bolasie, who also drew interest from Gremio and Fluminense, netted eight goals and provided four assists in 36 matches across various competitions during 2024.
The international star from the Democratic Republic of the Congo has had an extensive career, having also played for clubs such as Sporting Lisbon, Middlesbrough, and Anderlecht, spanning nearly two decades.
In another significant development, former Real Madrid left-back Marcelo is reportedly on the verge of joining reigning Liga MX champion Club America in January 2025, according to multiple media sources.
The 36-year-old is currently a free agent following his departure from Fluminense in November. America manager Andre Jardine has identified him as a key target for the upcoming Liga MX season, set to commence on January 10, 2025. Reports suggest that Marcelo is considering the possibility of concluding his career in Mexico. He began his professional journey with Fluminense in 2005 before making a move to Real Madrid in January 2007.
During his impressive tenure at the Spanish club, he achieved numerous accolades, including five UEFA Champions League titles. Marcelo, who has earned 58 caps for Brazil, made 68 appearances during his second spell at Fluminense, scoring five goals.
