Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Dec 31 (NationPress) The prominent club Fluminense has successfully secured the signing of Uruguayan under-23 forward Joaquin Lavega on a free transfer from River Plate Montevideo, as confirmed by the Brazilian Serie A team on Monday. The 19-year-old has inked a five-year contract following his medical examination at Fluminense's Carlos Castilho training complex in Rio de Janeiro.
"I’m incredibly proud to be joining a club of this stature like Fluminense and I vow to give my all for this jersey," Lavega expressed on the club’s official platform. "As soon as I heard about the opportunity to come here, I didn’t hesitate for a second."
Lavega, who is capable of playing as a second striker or on the left wing, netted 11 goals in 35 matches across all competitions for River Plate Montevideo in 2024. He joins new signings such as midfielder Hercules, forward Paulo Baya, and defender Juan Freytes as part of Fluminense's squad for the 2025 season, according to reports from Xinhua.

The 32-year-old played 27 matches for the Rio de Janeiro club, scoring one goal and assisting five times after joining on a season-long deal in March. "Oscar Romero donned our colors with great commitment and bids farewell with both the Brazilian and Libertadores titles," stated a release from Botafogo’s official website. "A classic in his midfield role, the Paraguayan proved decisive at crucial moments throughout the season, leaving a lasting impact on both victories. We thank you and wish you the best on your future endeavors, Oscar."
