Football: Mohamed Salah Remains Distant from New Contract with Liverpool

London, Dec 30 (NationPress) Liverpool's forward Mohamed Salah states that his primary focus is on aiding his team in the quest for the Premier League title, but he concedes that he is still considerably distant from signing a new deal. The Egyptian international scored his 20th goal of the season and provided an assist for Cody Gakpo during Liverpool's commanding 5-0 triumph over West Ham on Sunday, allowing them to extend their lead to eight points at the top of the league standings.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of June, Salah has yet to reach an agreement on a new contract. In response to inquiries about his future during a post-match interview, the Egyptian forward acknowledged that he and the club remain significantly apart on that matter, according to reports from Xinhua.

"I prefer not to discuss anything publicly... My sole focus is on helping Liverpool clinch the league title, and I aim to be a vital part of that. I will exert my utmost for the team to secure the championship. Several other teams are closing in on us, so we must remain concentrated and humble and keep pushing forward," Salah remarked.

Salah isn't the only player at Liverpool facing the prospect of departing for free at the end of the season; defenders Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in similar situations, with rumors linking Alexander-Arnold to a potential transfer to Real Madrid.

The forward showcased his excellent form as Liverpool continued their outstanding season, further solidifying their position at the top of the Premier League with a resounding 5-0 victory over West Ham United.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring in the 30th minute after a deflected pass fell to him, allowing him to advance into the area and score from 12 meters out. Mohammed Kudus hit the post for West Ham shortly thereafter, but Liverpool quickly doubled their lead through Cody Gakpo in the 40th minute, following some magical footwork from Salah in the West Ham penalty area.

Salah capped off the win with a low shot just before halftime, while Trent Alexander-Arnold made it 4-0 with a deflected effort nine minutes into the second half, and Diogo Jota concluded the rout with six minutes remaining.
