Premier League: Salah Shines as Liverpool Secures 5-0 Win Against West Ham, Extending Lead to 8 Points

London, Dec 30 (NationPress) Mohamed Salah made history by becoming the first player to achieve a goal and an assist in eight distinct Premier League matches within a single season, as Liverpool raced eight points ahead at the top of the table following a commanding 5-0 triumph over West Ham United.

Salah has recorded 23 assists across all competitions in 2024, the highest by any Liverpool player in a single calendar year during the Premier League era.

"If you examine Mo (Salah) and his statistics, you can't dispute that (he's the best player in the world). There are numerous players with immense quality, but he stands out. He is in an excellent form, and we hope he can maintain this for a long period," Liverpool manager Arne Slot commented.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Liverpool before Salah assisted Gakpo to net the second goal and then netted the third himself.

Trent Alexander-Arnold added a fourth with a deflected shot from distance, and a brilliant dribble by Salah set up substitute Diogo Jota to finish the scoring.

This victory marked Liverpool's 14th win in 18 matches this season, placing them eight points ahead of second-placed Nottingham Forest, the only team to have defeated them thus far. Meanwhile, West Ham sits in 13th position.

"The sole focus in my mind is that I want Liverpool to win the league, and I just want to contribute to that. That has been my only objective since the start of the season. I will strive to help the team secure trophies. We are progressing in the right direction, but obviously, a few other teams are keen on closing the gap and they are very strong teams.

"We just need to remain focused, humble, work hard, and keep pushing forward," Salah, who has now tallied 20 goals and 17 assists for the 2024-25 season, told Sky Sports.
