New Delhi, June 18 (NationPress) The India U23 men's football team could not maintain their lead and ultimately faced a disappointing 2-3 defeat against the Tajikistan U23 team during a friendly match held at the TALCO Arena in Tursunzoda, Tajikistan, on Wednesday. After receiving a red card, India was left with only 10 players.
Suhail Ahmad Bhat (33’) and Parthib Sundar Gogoi (85’) managed to put India ahead twice, but Ansor Khabibov (59’) and Muhammadiqbol Davlatov (90+1’) equalized on both occasions. Eventually, Muhammadali Azizboev (90+5’) scored the decisive goal in stoppage time. Ayush Chhetri was sent off just 10 minutes into the second half, putting India at a disadvantage.
The match started evenly, with India's winger Mohammed Sanan delivering a promising cross to Vinith Venkatesh, but his volley went astray.
Tajikistan's first significant chance came after 30 minutes, following a free-kick. Faridun Davlav attempted a header but missed the target.
Minutes later, India capitalized on a counter-attack. In the 33rd minute, Macarton Louis Nickson sprinted down the right flank and delivered a precise low cross to Suhail, who skillfully slotted it past the goalkeeper, giving India the lead.
The hosts sought to equalize before halftime and nearly succeeded. Five minutes before the break, Ansor Khabibov made a run and crossed to Shahboz Khabibov, but Indian goalkeeper Priyansh Dubey intervened just in time.
As the second half unfolded similarly, India faced a setback when Chhetri received a second yellow card for a foul.
With the numerical advantage, Tajikistan quickly equalized, with Khabibov scoring in the 59th minute.
Despite the onslaught from Tajikistan, India regained the lead when Mohammed Aimen intercepted a pass and set up Gogoi, who rounded the keeper to score.
However, India's joy was short-lived. Late in injury time, Muhammadiqbol scored from a free-kick, followed by Azizboev's header from a corner, completing a stunning comeback for Tajikistan.
