London, June 17 (NationPress) Formula 1 has revealed that the Canadian Grand Prix will continue to thrive into its seventh decade, thanks to a recent four-year agreement forged with the Promoter and the Governments of Canada and Quebec. This deal ensures that the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal will be featured on the racing calendar until 2035.
The Canadian Grand Prix holds the title of the oldest Formula 1 event outside Europe, with its 54th edition recently held since its inaugural race in 1967. The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, named in honor of the iconic Canadian F1 driver Gilles Villeneuve, became the permanent venue in 1978 and is a favorite among both drivers and fans for its challenging chicanes, sharp hairpin, and the notorious Wall of Champions.
Four active drivers - George Russell, Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Fernando Alonso - have all claimed victory at the 4.36 km circuit. Notably, Hamilton and Michael Schumacher share the record for the most wins at this location, each having triumphed seven times.
In recent times, Octane Racing Group has made substantial upgrades to the infrastructure and is committed to further investments to support Formula 1’s growing global presence. Additionally, promoters and representatives from various government sectors have agreed to shift the event to an earlier date starting in 2026 to aid in better calendar management.
Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO of Formula 1, remarked, “As Formula 1 celebrates its 75th anniversary, it is fitting that we announce an extension with the Canadian Grand Prix, a race rich in history. I am thrilled to confirm that we will continue racing here until 2035 and that our media rights arrangement with Bell Media will also be extended. Special thanks to Octane Racing Group and our Canadian fans. I eagerly anticipate more unforgettable moments in Montreal.”
Jean-Philippe Paradis, SVP at Bell and President of F1 Grand Prix du Canada, stated, “We are immensely proud to announce that the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada will maintain its annual presence in Montreal through 2035. This underscores the race’s iconic status. We are excited to provide ten more years of world-class racing and extend our gratitude to all partners and our dedicated team.”
