Formula 1: Leclerc Commends Ferrari's Remarkable Performance in the Second Half of 2024 Season

New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) As the 2024 Formula 1 season wrapped up with an exciting finale in Abu Dhabi, Charles Leclerc paused to contemplate Ferrari’s challenging journey throughout the year. Despite not clinching the Constructors’ Championship against McLaren, Leclerc celebrated the Scuderia’s exemplary execution and growth as the pivotal points of their season.

Ferrari’s year was characterized by significant ups and downs. The team started the season on a tough note, achieving only two victories before the summer break. A decline in performance during the mid-season races led to difficulties in keeping pace with rivals Red Bull and McLaren.

However, the latter half of the season saw a comeback, fueled by a series of impactful upgrades that reignited Ferrari’s competitiveness. Leclerc emphasized the impressive progress made during this phase: “The initial part of the season was not easy. We were certainly not the fastest car. We faced challenges with performance. But in the latter part of the season, we've accomplished an incredible job, primarily in enhancing the car’s pace,” Leclerc stated to F1.

The enhancements developed at Maranello not only boosted the car’s outright speed but also positioned Ferrari as the main challenger to McLaren. Several races toward the end of the season even witnessed Ferrari fielding the fastest car on the grid.

Leclerc attributed Ferrari’s operational effectiveness as the foundation of their success. From strategic choices to race-day management, the Scuderia exhibited precision and focus, enabling them to remain in the Constructors’ Championship fight until the final race. “The highlight of this season has undoubtedly been our execution. To contend for the Constructors’ title until the very last race, especially considering our performance in the first half of the year, is a testament to our efforts. I take great pride in that,” he remarked.

Looking forward, Leclerc emphasized the necessity for Ferrari to capitalize on their progress without becoming overly dependent on momentum. He reflected on past seasons when strong finishes did not lead to successful starts in subsequent years.

“Momentum isn’t truly a factor. There are numerous instances where we ended a year strongly yet faced challenges at the start of the next. We’ve identified the missteps taken during those winter breaks and have paid the price at the beginning of the following season.”

The Monegasque driver highlighted the importance of learning from previous experiences, particularly in optimizing winter development. “In the last four years, we’ve made strides in the right direction. With Carlos [Sainz], we’ve advanced the team significantly. However, this winter, we must maintain our focus to ensure we begin 2025 in the optimal position.”

Leclerc also discussed the evolution of the team over the past few years. Having been part of the championship race in both 2022 and now 2024, he noted the development of Ferrari’s personnel and their preparedness to compete at the highest level.

“I’ve developed significantly as a driver, and I believe we’ve evolved considerably as a team. For many individuals on the team, this was their first experience competing at the top with Ferrari. This experience is invaluable as we progress forward.”
