Bahrain, April 10 (NationPress) Ferrari approaches the Bahrain Grand Prix in search of redemption and a return to form, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton expressing cautious optimism about new enhancements that could help narrow the gap to leading teams McLaren and Red Bull.
After a challenging beginning to the 2025 Formula 1 season, which included a dual disqualification in China and ongoing difficulties in matching the pace of the leaders, Ferrari currently sits in fourth place in the Constructors' championship. However, the introduction of new parts on the SF-25 this weekend has instilled a renewed sense of hope within the Italian team.
Leclerc, the more reliable of the two Ferrari drivers thus far, believes the updates being rolled out in Sakhir will assist in lessening the three-tenths-per-lap gap to McLaren observed at Suzuka. Nevertheless, he remains pragmatic about the extent of the advancements. “We’ve got some new components on the car coming this weekend, which I hope will help us to narrow that gap a little,” stated Leclerc. “Whether it will be sufficient to close the entire gap, I don’t think so. But I am hopeful it will bring us closer – it’s a significant improvement.”
Leclerc was quick to temper expectations, indicating that Ferrari's immediate goal is to contend for a podium finish rather than outright challenge Max Verstappen from Red Bull or McLaren directly.
“Currently, we are positioned around the third or fourth best team,” he acknowledged. “I hope the gap will diminish, but I don’t think it’s enough to compete with McLaren and Max this weekend.”
Teammate Hamilton mirrored Leclerc’s views. The seven-time world champion is eager to see how the upgrades perform on the track, especially after spending additional time behind the wheel since the pre-season testing in Bahrain.
“We’ve got an upgrade this weekend, so I’m excited,” remarked Hamilton. “We’re aiming to achieve a bit more downforce. We also have a better grasp of the set-up, which should lead to a more successful weekend.”
