Spinner Bjorn Fortuin has been handed the captaincy of a 15-member South Africa squad for a white-ball tour of Namibia later this month, featuring a T20I tri-series and a historic first bilateral ODI series between the two nations. The squad, announced on 11 August, blends nationally contracted players with domestic performers earning their first senior call-ups.

Tour Schedule and Format

The Proteas will open the tour with a T20I tri-series involving Namibia and Zimbabwe, running from 28 August to 6 September at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. The same squad will then contest three ODIs against Namibia from 9 to 13 September — the first-ever bilateral 50-over series between the two neighbouring nations. The Proteas are scheduled to depart from OR Tambo International Airport on 25 August.

Fortuin's Captaincy and Conrad's Vision

Fortuin, who has previously led the Lions at domestic level, takes charge as South Africa seek to broaden their international talent pool ahead of next year's World Cup. Head coach Shukri Conrad explained the rationale behind fielding a single squad across both formats: 'We've selected one squad for both series as we feel we have all departments well covered and it provides a great opportunity for players to build on their international caps.'

Conrad also addressed the inclusion of players who featured in the earlier T20I series against New Zealand: 'We saw glimpses of what Connor and Nqobani can offer during the T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year. It was unfortunate that Jordan picked up an injury in the opening match of that series, so we're looking forward to seeing him get another opportunity at this level.'

Fresh Faces and Domestic Performers

Duan Jansen receives his maiden senior call-up after a standout 2025/26 domestic campaign, in which he was named Division 1 One Day Cup Player of the Year and helped the Titans clinch the title with an unbeaten 61 in the final against the Lions. Eathan Bosch is the other uncapped T20I player in the mix.

Meanwhile, Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann, and Nqobani Mokoena have been named in an ODI squad for the first time. Conrad described Jansen as 'a quality all-rounder who has also shown great character for the Titans,' adding that the tour 'adds further significance, especially as we build towards next year's World Cup.'

Contracted Stars Provide Experience

Nationally contracted players Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, and Kwena Maphaka lend experience to a largely fresh-faced group. Their presence ensures a degree of continuity and leadership depth alongside the emerging names.
