Madrid, Aug 16 (NationPress) The Spanish football club Valencia has transferred winger Fran Perez to La Liga rivals Rayo Vallecano for nearly a million euros, as confirmed by the club's official site on Friday. Perez has committed to a four-year contract with the Madrid-based team, which is set to make its European debut in the upcoming UEFA Conference League play-off next week.

Perez is the son of former Valencia sports director Francisco Perez 'Rufete' and has progressed through the club's youth academy, according to reports from Xinhua.

He debuted in La Liga during Gennaro Gattuso’s brief tenure as Valencia's coach in the 2022-23 season, accumulating 77 appearances for the first team, many of which were as a substitute.

Last season, Perez faced challenges due to a back injury, appearing in 26 matches but only starting in four of them.

Valencia remarked that "Fran Perez has worn the Valencia jersey with pride and has embodied the DNA and values of our youth academy."

Known for his remarkable speed and strength, Perez was a prolific scorer in his youth and is recognized for his effective dribbling skills. He made his senior debut with the reserves on October 17, 2020, substituting for Hugo Gonzalez in a 2–2 draw against Atzeneta UE.

Perez made his professional and La Liga debut for Valencia on August 29, 2022, coming on as a late substitute in a narrow 1–0 defeat to Atletico Madrid. In March 2023, the 22-year-old renewed his contract until 2027 and was officially promoted to the main squad in August 2023.

Under the guidance of Inigo Perez, Rayo Vallecano finished the La Liga season in eighth place, their best league position since the 2012–13 season, which also saw them secure the same rank. This success earned the club a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League, marking their return to European competitions after a 24-year hiatus.

The 2024–25 season marks the 121st year in the history of Rayo Vallecano and the club's fourth consecutive season in La Liga. In addition to competing in the domestic league, the team is also participating in the Copa del Rey.

Point of View

I believe the transfer of Fran Perez to Rayo Vallecano is a significant move for both the player and the club. His youth and talent can rejuvenate Rayo Vallecano's squad as they prepare for European competition, and it reflects Valencia's commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.
