New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) West Indies cricket icon Chris Gayle continues to fondly remember his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, describing it as a remarkable interaction.
Gayle was part of the official delegation led by Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness during his visit to India last year.
"What a legend, great to meet him. I've been visiting India for a long time, and it was incredible to have the opportunity to meet him alongside my Prime Minister as well," Gayle expressed to IANS when reminiscing about the encounter at an event in New Delhi.
The dynamic batsman added that he has shared this moment on his Instagram profile. "You can see on my Instagram, I've actually pinned that moment." He also expressed his confidence in India's chances of winning the Champions Trophy under Rohit Sharma's captaincy in Dubai.
"India always fields a strong squad, regardless of the team they choose. They consistently remain one of the favorites to clinch the Champions Trophy," said the former opener.
During the same event, Gayle was appointed as the patron of the Baidyanath Bundelkhand Blasters team for the Legends League Cricket Ten (LLC10) tournament, which is set to commence in Lucknow on February 13. A total of 12 teams from various districts of Uttar Pradesh will compete, featuring players from across India in the tennis ball ten-over tournament.
“Softball tournaments like LLC10 are a welcome addition as they promote the emergence of new competitions. Many of us began our careers with local street softball cricket. My advice to the players is to embrace cricket seriously, as it could potentially become a source of livelihood,” Gayle remarked.
