Gurugram (Haryana), March 12 (NationPress) The Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GI-PKL) is ready to make its spectacular entry in Gurugram on April 18, as announced by the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA), the League's governing body, on Wednesday.
This league will include participation from nations like Egypt, Kenya, Argentina, Germany, England, Norway, and Poland, highlighting the expanding international influence of Kabaddi in an effort to promote the sport worldwide.
The inaugural season will be streamed live on Sony Sports Network and will showcase 12 teams—six men's and six women's—all reflecting the diverse cultural and linguistic heritage of India. The teams are thoughtfully named to represent their regional identities.
The women’s teams comprise the Marathi Falcons, Bhojpuri Leopardess, Telugu Cheetahs, Tamil Lioness, Punjabi Tigress, and Haryanvi Eagles.
The men's teams include the Marathi Vultures, Bhojpuri Leopards, Telugu Panthers, Tamil Lions, Punjabi Tigers, and Haryanvi Sharks.
Discussing GI-PKL, Kanthi D. Suresh, President of HIPSA, mentioned that the inaugural season is the result of over a year of efforts aimed at globalizing the sport of Kabaddi and encouraging the world to view it as a potential Olympic Sport.
GI-PKL has also announced the captains for each franchise. Shiv Prashad will captain the Bhojpuri Leopards, while Vikash Dahiya will lead the Haryanvi Sharks. The Marathi Vultures and Punjabi Tigers will be captained by Kapil Narwal and Sawin Narwal, respectively. Sunil Narwal will head the Tamil Lions, and Sandeep Kandola will captain the Telugu Panthers.
Pushpa Rana will lead the Haryanvi Eagles, with Meena Kadyan as the captain of the Bhojpuri Leopardess. The Marathi Falcons and Punjabi Tigress will have Tanu Sharma and Meera as captains, respectively. Julie Bhati will lead the Telugu Cheetahs, while Suman will take charge of the Tamil Lioness.
