Ahmedabad, May 19 (NationPress) Players of the Gujarat Titans (GT) will wear special lavender jerseys during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 home match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Narendra Modi Stadium this Thursday, aiming to champion the fight against cancer.
For the third consecutive year, the Titans are committed to raising awareness about the essential role of early detection and access to quality care for those affected by cancer, as stated by the Ahmedabad-based franchise.
According to their statement, the match against LSG is set to be particularly meaningful, as Gujarat Titans not only plan to bat for cancer survivors and patients but also to rally fans around this cause by distributing 30,000 lavender flags and 10,000 lavender jerseys.
GT's captain, Shubman Gill, who recently scored an unbeaten 93 alongside B. Sai Sudharsan's 108 not out in a dominant 10-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals, expressed that this tribute is a way for them to show solidarity with those battling cancer.
“As athletes, we understand the influence we possess to drive change. Wearing these lavender jerseys is our method of demonstrating support for cancer fighters and honoring their remarkable courage. We believe that through raising awareness and education, we can empower individuals to take control of their health and work towards a future where cancer is no longer an insurmountable challenge,” he stated.
Colonel Arvinder Singh, COO of Gujarat Titans, remarked, “For three years, the Gujarat Titans have been advocating for cancer awareness. We are grateful to our fans who have continuously supported the message of early diagnosis and proactive care for cancer.
“On May 22, Ahmedabad will resonate with the message of unity from thousands of supporters in the battle against cancer, aiming to highlight that cancer, in any form, can be confronted and overcome with appropriate care,” he added.
With 18 points secured from 12 matches, the Gujarat Titans are in a strong position to secure the top spot in the table if they win their upcoming two home games against LSG and the Chennai Super Kings on May 25.
