Ahmedabad, May 22 (NationPress) Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Thursday.
A victory for GT will secure them a top-two position in the IPL 2025 points table, allowing them to compete in Qualifier 1 on May 29. GT will also don a lavender kit to support their cancer awareness initiative.
“We’ll bowl first; it seems like a solid wicket. Having a target will be beneficial. We aim to build momentum leading into the qualifiers; these next two matches are crucial. The synergy between us is fantastic; we (him and B. Sai Sudharsan) don’t discuss who will attack the bowlers. Our approach is to play with positive intent and remain focused on the present,” stated Gill.
LSG, already out of the competition, will be without their mystery spinner Digvesh Rathi, who received a one-match suspension due to excessive celebrations after taking wickets, accumulating five demerit points over three games.
Consequently, LSG has included Shahbaz Ahmed and Himmat Singh, while pacer Akash Singh is set to play but is currently on the impact player list. “I would have bowled first; it looks like a good pitch,” said the LSG skipper.
“Facing a challenge after being eliminated is tough, but we take pride in our game. Our team is experimenting with different strategies to enhance our chances of winning. We aim to prepare ourselves for the upcoming season,” remarked LSG captain Rishabh Pant.
