Mumbai, March 13 (NationPress) Saika Ishaque and Danielle Gibson have been included for the pivotal match as the Gujarat Giants won the toss and chose to bowl first against the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator match of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday.

The victor of today’s match will secure a spot in the final against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. MI is competing in an Eliminator for the third consecutive time, whereas it’s the inaugural playoff appearance for GG. Historically, MI holds a 6-0 advantage over GG in their previous encounters.

After the toss, GG captain Ashleigh Gardner announced that Danielle is stepping in for the hard-hitting all-rounder Deandra Dottin, who sustained an injury during the pre-match warm-up just five minutes prior.

“It’s another fresh wicket, and we believe we executed many things well the other night. Although we didn’t clinch the win, we’ve taken numerous positives from our bowling performance,” Gardner stated.

“It’s truly unfortunate for such a significant match, but I’m thrilled for Danielle as she makes her debut. It’s an exciting opportunity, and I hope she can excel. Typically, it’s a high-scoring pitch, though there might be some assistance early on,” she added.

“Everyone is extremely excited. We’ve played some commendable cricket throughout this tournament. In addition to excitement, I’m certain there are plenty of nerves in the camp since we haven’t been in this situation before,” she remarked.

MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur stated that Saika, the left-arm spinner, is replacing Parunika Sisodia in the lineup. “For us, anything was acceptable. We’ve faced this scenario twice and understand how crucial this game is. The key is to remain present in the moment,” she expressed.
