Lucknow, March 7 (NationPress) The Gujarat Giants have won the toss and chosen to bowl first against the Delhi Capitals in the 17th match of the current edition of the Women's Premier League 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

The Giants have maintained their starting lineup, while the Capitals made one adjustment, bringing in Titas Sadhu to replace N. Charani.

After a shaky start to the 2025 WPL season, with three losses in the first four matches, the Gujarat Giants appear to have regained their form, heading into the game with two consecutive victories.

“We’re opting to bowl. The pitch has shown promise in previous matches, and our bowlers have managed to restrict runs effectively; we hope to achieve that again today. The dew factor played a role last time, making batting easier later in the game. It’s been challenging, but having experienced international players has been beneficial. Different players have risen to the occasion, and our bowlers have been particularly impressive, including Kashvee and Mona,” commented Giants’ captain Gardner.

In contrast, the Delhi Capitals have already secured their spot in the playoffs for a third consecutive year, following their victory against the Mumbai Indians. Under the leadership of Meg Lanning, they sit at the top of the table and aim to maintain their strong performance, winning four out of their last five matches.

“It appears to be a favorable batting surface. It’s crucial to execute well, regardless of the order of play. Our team has excelled at switching focus as needed. We have one change; the opening bowlers in the league have performed well, and for us, it’s about navigating that initial period,” said DC skipper Meg at the toss.

The last encounter between these teams took place in the 10th match of the tournament, where Delhi triumphed by six wickets while chasing a target of 128 with 29 balls to spare.
