Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 22 (NationPress) The Gujarat Giants have officially acquired Jintimani Kalita to fill in for Titas Sadhu, who is sidelined due to injury, for the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. Kalita, a left-handed batter and right-arm medium pace bowler, has previously represented the Mumbai Indians in the WPL and has played a total of 13 matches over the last three seasons.
She has joined the Giants for Rs 10 Lakhs and is expected to bolster the team’s chances as they strive for a playoff position.
Titas Sadhu, who transferred from the Delhi Capitals prior to this WPL season, unfortunately, has not had the opportunity to play a single game due to her injury.
“The Gujarat Giants (GG) have secured Jintimani Kalita as an injury substitute for Titas Sadhu for the remainder of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. Jintimani Kalita has 13 WPL matches under her belt from her time with the Mumbai Indians (MI). She is a left-handed batter and a right-arm medium fast bowler, joining GG for Rs 10 Lakh,” the WPL announced in a statement.
Sadhu, a promising young bowler, has faced several injuries over the last two years and was the only Indian player in the squad that hadn’t seen action for Gujarat this season.
Her standout performances during the U19 World Cup and her subsequent play for DC in the WPL had earned her a call-up to the national team in 2023. She made her T20I debut against Bangladesh on September 24, 2023, and received her ODI cap on December 5, 2024, during a match against Australia in Brisbane.
However, her last appearance on the international stage was over a year ago, in January 2025, against Ireland, when the Women in Blue played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, and she has not returned to the squad since.
