Lucknow, Dec 1 (NationPress) The UP Rudras have officially named Hardik Singh, the vice-captain of the Indian national team and a standout midfielder, as their captain for the inaugural season of the Hockey India League.
The recipient of the Arjuna Award and the esteemed FIH Player of the Year Award in 2023, Hardik has accumulated 140 caps for Team India. He will lead a skilled ensemble under the mentorship of head coach Paul Van Ass and technical director Cedric Dsouza.
“Hardik was our primary choice during the auctions, and we were confident in his leadership. His consistent performance for India and his contribution to the Indian team achieving back-to-back Olympic bronze medals is a significant accomplishment. We believe that his understanding of the game’s complexities will not only enable him to lead effectively but also elevate the performance of his teammates,” remarked head coach Van.

“It is a tremendous honor to captain the UP Rudras in this season of the Hockey India League. Representing and leading a team from the legendary Dhyanchand Ji’s hometown is a dream for any athlete. We boast a fantastic squad with strengths in every area,” said Hardik.
“I am thrilled to lead a team that shares a profound love and enthusiasm for the sport. We eagerly anticipate donning the UP Rudras jersey and stepping onto the field to showcase our best effort,” Hardik added.
