Lucknow, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Lucknow-based team in the Hockey India League, UP Rudras, wrapped up their season with a hard-fought win against Tamil Nadu Dragons but fell just one point short of semifinal qualification, ending up in 5th place. Nonetheless, this season was particularly meaningful for the franchise in numerous ways. Over a total of 10 matches, UP Rudras secured five victories, faced defeat in four, and ended with one draw.

The UP Rudras were awarded the Fair Play Award for their dedication to sportsmanship and discipline throughout the competition. With the help of James Mazarello’s outstanding reflexes and crucial saves, the team concluded the tournament with the least number of goals conceded (22) across all teams. James' remarkable performances were key to UP Rudras’ campaign, constantly keeping opponents on their toes.

In reflecting on the season, team captain Hardik Singh shared his pride in the squad's performance. The team had a strong mix of experienced players such as Kane Russell, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, and Tanguy Cosyns, alongside promising young stars like Talem Priyobarta, Sudeep Chirmako, and James Mazarello. Renowned for their fearless approach, the team showcased incredible determination and resilience, even in the face of challenges.

“While we didn’t finish the season as we desired, I couldn’t be more proud of the team. Every time we took the field, we put forth our best effort, and that is what truly counts. We treasured every moment together, both on and off the field. It has been a privilege to lead such a gifted group of players. We made mistakes, but we also achieved significant development throughout the season.

“We will absorb the lessons learned this year and return even stronger next season. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to all our supporters for their steadfast encouragement. It has been a tremendous honor to represent UP Rudras,” stated Hardik.

Throughout the season, UP Rudras witnessed several exceptional individual performances, positioning them as formidable contenders for a semifinal spot. The team initiated the season with a string of victories, but a few missteps in later matches proved detrimental. In the concluding game of the league stage, UP Rudras contended fiercely for the 4th place position. However, despite their victory in the match, they could only garner 2 points, leaving them just outside the top four.

The top four slots were taken by Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, Hyderabad Toofans, Tamil Nadu Dragons, and Soorma Hockey Club, with Bengal Tigers ultimately claiming the championship.
