She acknowledged that her persistent efforts and struggles have culminated in this moment.
Prior to the match on Thursday, both Harmanpreet and former Indian men's all-rounder Yuvraj Singh were celebrated with stands named in their honor. The event included family members of both athletes, along with players like Amanjot Kaur, Harleen Deol, BCCI President Mithun Manhas, and the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann.
“After securing the World Cup, many aspects of my life transformed. Yet, I believe this is a particularly significant moment for me. The very ground where I began my journey now has a stand named after me. It’s a deeply proud moment, and I am truly grateful to the Punjab Cricket Association for this honor,” said Harmanpreet in a video shared by the BCCI on their social media platforms.
“Every ounce of hard work, every challenge faced has led to this day. It’s profoundly emotional for me. I hope this serves as motivation to everyone watching this,” she added.
Yuvraj, who retired from international cricket in 2019, played a key role in India’s win in the inaugural T20 World Cup of 2007. His peak performance came during the 2011 ODI World Cup when he scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets, earning the title of Player of the Series in India’s championship run.
“I am very proud of her and the entire Indian team for their World Cup victory. It was their aspiration, and I am thrilled for their success in the final,” he remarked.
Expressing gratitude for the stand named after him, Yuvraj stated, “This is a significant honor. Years of dedication to India and Punjab have led to this special recognition, both as a coach and mentor. Thank you to the BCCI and PCA for their unwavering support.”
