New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) The High Commission of India in Canberra provided a heartfelt welcome to the Indian women's cricket team as they prepared for their second T20I in the three-match series against Australia. The diplomatic mission hosted a special reception for the players and coaching staff in Canberra.

The Indian squad, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, attended the event, which underscored the robust support for the team while they are competing abroad. Such gatherings often foster a sense of comfort and inspiration, especially during challenging international tours.

India commenced the series on a high note, achieving a 21-run victory over Australia via the DLS method in a rain-affected opening T20I. After opting to bowl first, India's bowling lineup set the stage early, with Renuka Singh making the breakthrough by dismissing Beth Mooney.

Australia tried to stabilize their innings, but Arundhati Reddy delivered a critical performance that shifted the momentum decisively in favor of India. She took out key players Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry in quick succession, finishing with exceptional figures of 4 for 22, earning her the Player of the Match Award. Her efforts triggered a collapse, leading to Australia being bowled out for 133 in just 18 overs.

Despite rain interruptions that altered India’s chase, the visitors maintained their confidence. Shafali Verma spearheaded the charge with a brisk 21, while Smriti Mandhana ensured stability.
