HIL 2024-25: Soorma Aims for Enhanced Scoring in Crucial Match Against Gonasika

Rourkela, Jan 13 (NationPress) Soorma Hockey Club is preparing for their sixth encounter in the Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25, where they will take on Team Gonasika at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday. Currently, with eight points from five matches, the Soorma Hockey Club holds the fifth position. Head coach Jeroen Baart has reflected on the team's journey thus far, praising their defensive efforts while underscoring the necessity of generating additional scoring opportunities.

Notably, three of Soorma's matches have reached shootouts, with two victories resulting in bonus points. Discussing this pattern, Baart stated, “I believe it is quite competitive; all teams are closely matched, and any team can progress significantly. This trend is evident in other matches as well. One must remain alert throughout, as the outcome can shift at any moment.”

Emphasizing Soorma's defensive capabilities, Baart remarked, “We have been very robust defensively, supported by a commendable goalkeeper, Vincent Vanasch, who makes a significant impact. We have only managed one field goal across five games, so enhancing our offensive efficiency is crucial as we move forward in the tournament.”

As they prepare for the showdown against Gonasika, the coach noted, “We anticipate a tightly contested match. It is vital for us to convert our chances when positioned high on the pitch and to leverage any momentum we can gather. Our defensive framework has been commendably solid, which we are pleased about.”

Reflecting on standout players, Baart added, “We've seen significant contributions from various team members. The inputs from Phil Roper and Nichola Della Torre have been substantial, alongside the consistent performances from Jeremy Hayward in defense, and Vivek Sagar Prasad's pivotal role in midfield has also been crucial.”

In conclusion, he remarked, “We need to ensure our forwards are more active in securing corners and targeting goals.”
