Ahmedabad, May 4 — Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara has credited Jason Holder's dual-impact performance as the defining factor in Gujarat Titans' victory over Punjab Kings, emphasizing how the West Indian all-rounder has reshaped the franchise's balance. Speaking to JioStar, Pujara highlighted Holder's contributions across both bat and ball as instrumental in GT's win.

Holder's dual-threat impact

"The way Jason Holder has made an impact on this team, both with the bat and the ball, has been impressive. He contributed to key wickets, including the important dismissal of Shreyas Iyer," Pujara said, underscoring the all-rounder's decisive role in critical phases of the match. Holder's ability to strike at crucial junctures proved pivotal in GT's successful chase or total-building effort, depending on the match situation.

Flexibility transforms middle-order woes

Beyond individual performances, Pujara stressed how Holder's positional flexibility has addressed a structural weakness in GT's XI. "Overall, his presence has taken the team to a different level. GT had some concerns around the middle-order batting, and his flexibility to bat at No. 5, 6, or 7 adds great balance to the side," he noted. This adaptability has allowed GT to field a more cohesive combination without sacrificing bowling depth.

Shifting focus to Kolkata Knight Riders' earlier encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, Pujara lauded emerging batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi for anchoring the chase with composure beyond his years. "It was a clinical performance overall. While others contributed, Angkrish played a crucial role in the chase. His 59 off 47 balls provided the stability that was needed," Pujara observed. The youngster's measured approach contrasted sharply with the explosive batting often seen in T20 cricket, suggesting tactical maturity.

Looking ahead to Monday's Mumbai Indians versus Lucknow Super Giants clash, Pujara framed the contest as a test of resilience and institutional pride. "Mumbai Indians have faced several challenges this season, and there is a strong need for a comeback, for the fans, the team's pride, and for the players who have worked hard," he said. Both franchises carry the burden of high expectations, making the encounter as much about redemption as playoff positioning. "When you are such a big team, expectations are high, and they will be keen to respond. At the same time, Lucknow Super Giants have also had their share of issues. So, both teams will be playing for pride, regardless of their playoff chances."
