Hyderabad, March 27 (NationPress) Shardul Thakur claimed 4-34 as Travis Head led the scoring with 47, enabling Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to set a total of 190/9 in 20 overs against Lucknow Super Giants during Match 7 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday.
SRH started with an explosive partnership between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, maintaining an impressive run rate of 13.5, which is the highest for any duo in IPL history (minimum 500 runs). Head was aggressive, scoring 47 off 28 deliveries, until debutant Prince Yadav claimed his wicket.
In his second over, Shardul Thakur struck twice, removing Abhishek (9) and Ishan Kishan for a golden duck, marking Kishan as the latest player to be dismissed for zero after scoring a century in his previous innings. By the end of the power-play, SRH was at 62/2, despite LSG dropping Head twice in one over bowled by Ravi Bishnoi.
SRH’s middle-order struggled to maintain the pace. Heinrich Klaasen looked promising but was run out in an unusual manner; Prince Yadav attempted a caught-and-bowled off Nitish Reddy’s powerful shot, only for it to bounce off and hit the stumps while Klaasen (14) was outside the crease.
Nitish Reddy was dismissed shortly after for 32 off 27 deliveries, bowled while trying to attack Bishnoi. At 110/4 after 12 overs, SRH, who had previously scored a record 286/6, seemed unlikely to reach 200 runs.
With wickets falling consistently, Aniket Verma played a brief yet vital innings, striking 36 off just 13 balls, including back-to-back sixes against both Bishnoi and Digvesh Rathi. However, he was caught attempting a third six, and shortly after, Abhinav Manohar (2) fell to Shardul Thakur, leaving SRH at 156/7 in 17 overs.
Captain Pat Cummins added excitement by hitting sixes off his first three balls, joining an elite group that includes MS Dhoni, Nicholas Pooran, and Sunil Narine. However, he was dismissed on his fourth ball, caught at short third by Avesh Khan. SRH concluded their innings at 190 for 9, with the last two overs yielding only ten runs. Shardul Thakur finished with remarkable figures of 4-34, earning him the purple cap.
