I-League 2024-25: Shillong Lajong Secures Dominant 9-0 Victory Against Rajasthan United

Shillong, Dec 8 (NationPress) The home side, Shillong Lajong FC, celebrated a sensational victory as they overwhelmed Rajasthan United FC with a staggering score of 9-0 during Round 4 of the I-League 2024-25 at the SSA Stadium on Sunday.

After a dismal start with no wins in their initial three encounters, Lajong took to the field with determination, netting their first goal in just the third minute courtesy of Figo Syndai. They extended their lead with two additional goals from their Brazilian stars, Douglas Tardin (17’) and Daniel Goncalves (45+3’), finishing the first half at 3-0.

The second half proved equally devastating for Rajasthan United, as the relentless hosts added five more goals in a mere 21 minutes. Damaitphang Lyngdoh (49’), Tardin (51’), Marcos Rudwere (61’), Imanol Arana Sadaba (66’, penalty), and Hardy Nongbri (87’) contributed to the visitors' misery, marking the largest winning margin of the I-League 2024-25 to date.

Following this match, Shillong Lajong now holds five points from four games while Rajasthan remains at three. The Rajasthan squad has much to reflect on regarding their performance, as their defensive line was chaotic from the outset and showed little improvement as the match progressed, making things easier for Lajong's attackers.

Sadaba, the Spanish midfielder, showcased his skills on the wings, creating problems for his markers as he moved down the left side, setting up Figo for the opening goal.

Rajasthan United faced constant pressure thereafter, with their goal area resembling a battleground. Lajong increased their lead in the 17th minute when Tardin deftly flicked in a cross from the left. Just before halftime, Daniel took advantage of a corner kick, controlling the ball and firing it into the net with his left foot for the third goal.

With victory already secured, the home team toyed with their rivals, effortlessly adding five more goals to the tally. Even the enthusiastic crowd, initially thrilled by the home team’s dominance, appeared uninterested in the one-sided match.
